CNN, translating confusing text in one language into clear text into another language is not translation in my view. "Eu agua querer" is not the same as "I would love a glass of ice cold water, please." For over 30 years I translated hundreds of letters written in terrible Spanish by native speakers. I did this by informing the court at the beginning of the translation that the letters were written in "somewhat ungramamtical Spanish that can be summarirzed and freely translated as follows:" The writer of the "whack-a-mole" could have used shorter sentences and more punctuation to make his text clearer. |
