Report: But I'm always struck by the fact that people keep saying you can't play whack-a-mole, but if you can do it forever and keeping 20,000 or 30,000 in Afghanistan is not a problem, whack-a-mole is no fun for the mole. You're beating these people up all over the world. (Part of the problem is that the grammar is bad and confusing. The thinking is fuzzy at best. Too much cachaça the night before writing? How do you translate something into Portuguese that is unclear in the original language?) whack-a-mole (A mole is a small animal that lives in the ground like a gopher. In the game, there is a series of hole. A toy animals sticks his head out of a hole, and you hit it [whack it] with a large mallet [hammer made of wood]. No matter how many you "kill" or hit with the mallet, another head appears. The writer is comparing the game with killing the enemy in Afghanistan, of course.) As someone pointed out, there is a photograph on Google showing the game. There's a saying in Spanish: "Tira la piedra y esconde la mano." (Joga a pedra e esconde a mão.) It's okay to kill people if you are Arab and the victim is not. Kill them and then hide among us. That is the message. And it is "on the web", not "in the web". |
