Renan - I was selecting from the four answer choices as given.  "D)" would be acceptable if you add an "ed" to the end:

OK--->  Because of the recent number of break-ins to our system, security measures are being strengthened at the present.

However, I still think choice "A" is the correct one.  (No sophisticated explanation, it just sounds better to my ear...)
